I like to compare therapy with a flashlight, which consulters take in their hands to bring light into their inner twilight zones. As a therapist I provide the spotlight and it is the consulters who direct it towards the different parts of their experience.
Over and over again I am amazed by the way how consulters structure the sessions by themselves, sensing which memories they need to recover from their past and when. So they put order into the loose pieces of their puzzled mind, until they understand their own story. I consider it a privilege to share their most precious memories and accompany them through their saddest moments – these are intense moments filled with tenderness, sometimes funny, other times painful and always liberating.
